Everybody everybody everybody did I miss when we watched Carl Weathers’s UK-Office-level-awkward by the millions? Because there are only like 20 thousand views each on these seven videos where he approaches strangers, compliments them on their life choices, and wheels off in a flower cart.
Each one is under a minute, and edited for maximum discomfort.
This was a 2008 viral ad campaign for credit unions that didn’t go viral. All the YouTube clips show a slow slope of views with no spikes, so apparently the only viewers over the last four years are wanderers like me, who clicked through from “related” Arrested Development clips (most of the top comments are “you got a stew goin’” jokes).
Did you enjoy that? Because that’s the most positive reaction anyone will have to Carl Weathers for the rest of this series.
See, already they’re playing up the discomfort. She’s not smiling with her eyes. This is a realistic reaction to her situation.
Another pretty appropriate response: A bland bemused look, silence, a sign of acceptance so Carl will not bother the victim further. And the bit where he grabs a branch, that’s live stew-joke bait.
lkjasd;flkjasdf;lkjasd;flkajsdf “AdVERtissment.” And the excessive fourth “chip”. I’m 20% thinking they actually just accosted strangers for this. Is that a possibility?
I hate this one.
Clear winner. Who decided on these pronunciations? Who made up the shoe thing (which is not a thing)? Why the plane with the ominous drone? Some genius added a horror soundtrack to this clip and yes.
Last one. Cool-down. Sublime editing on that door-opening.
So yeah, why aren’t these megahits, and why aren’t the creators working on a BBC mockumentary?
